0.5 out of 5 stars

There isn't a Star that I can pick for my review of Ms. Lasiter. This was the worst experience of my life with an Attorney. I have represented myself numerous times in court since I have a College degree in Administration of Justice. The only reasons I hired Ms. Lasiter on October 2019,were: The Judge on my Divorce case suggested I get counsel since my ex-wife was making some strong allegations and demands and 2, a good friend and coworker recommended her to me. Well, short and sweet.... I had responded to all the court orders on my own, and had a pretty good record of everything in an 2 inch binder. Ms. Lasiter charged me $5000.00 ( $3500.00 first for retainer, and $1500 afterwards.) I basically turned over the whole case to her, and all she did was argue with me about what I could and could not ask for.... it seemed as if she was fighting for my ex-wife instead of me. After the $3500 dlls. run out, because I got charged for every second I spent on e-mails and Phone with her office.... She threatened me with withdrawing from my case if I didn't pay the $1500 dlls owed after the Retainer was used. I had only 2 days to pay up or stand to lose the case for not having legal counsel. Well, I finally fired her for incompetence and I got things handled on my own. I got what I wanted and the divorce was final on Feb. 26, 2020. I tried to reach out to her to get part of the last $1500 dlls. reimbursed to me, since she didn't spend anymore time on my case...and she answered with an offer of $350.00 and a waiver and release to be signed promising not to post any negative reviews about her. Sorry No Deal!!. She sent back her file to me...and it was about 1/2" thick and all copied from my own documents !... I Can't attach pictures of my binder vs. her file folder... but it sure wasn't worth $5000.00 dlls. Please beware !. I hope this review saves someone from making the same mistake...!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
