Zen and the Art of Practicing Law
Our advice centers on practical solutions tailored to the specific needs and goals of our clients. We pride ourselves on being responsive and accessible to our clients, maintaining high standards of professionalism, grounded with integrity.
Over the years we have discovered that our clients value our entrepreneurial philosophy and approach, which yields friendly, personable lawyers with focused industry knowledge and good old fashioned common sense. We strive to spot legal predicaments before they arise and we work with our clients to fashion practical, economically feasible solutions to complicated legal problems.
At Gerdes Law we like to keep things simple. We do this by listening to you, honestly answering your questions and providing results at a reasonable cost. We treat your legal issues as if they were our own.
One of our goals is to educate our clients and give them the tools to help themselves whenever they can. This process helps them better understand the law and the value of the service we provide. What sets us apart from other law firms is the ability to provide our clients with the best of both worlds: big firm experience and expertise along with small firm creativity, care and concern.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
