I have personally worked with Roland Tong for the past five years on my two products. He has handled everything in a professional manner. In every detail. He was able to secure my two registered trademarks with virtually no effort on my part. I'm very very pleased with the results he obtained for me. It has been a pleasure to work with Roland on these two projects. I would definitely recommend him for any needs on patents and trademarks. Once again thank you so much for your professionalism and handling my matters, sincerely, Mark Oyler.

I had an issue with a previous employee that was on a vendetta to try to ruin my reputation and my company, she started calling hospital within our area stating that our nurses are neglecting patients. Unfortunately, this has caused so much stress and financial issues for us. I asked Roland to see if he can help us get a permanent injunction to save our company and ensure that we don't get bullied by employees such as this. After almost a year and a half we won our case and was finally able to resolve the issue. We are able to sleep well at night knowing that we are protected. Roland is very professional and knowledgeable and always helps us with our day to day legal questions as well. I highly recommend him to our friends and family.

I found Roland Tong in what appears to be a purchased ad at the top of the list of trademark attorneys on this site — an ad that specifically represents him as a “trademark and copyright” lawyer. I made this appointment a week ago, and, in the interim, responded to his emailed request for a statement of what sort of legal assistance I was seeking. To my great surprise, only an hour prior to my scheduled appointment I received email notification that the appointment had been canceled -- one word, “Canceled,” in the subject line — without even an explanation of why he was cancelling the appointment included in the email — nor, I might add, an apology. As it turns out, as I learned by calling him, that he no longer does copyright law! After a week waiting for a consultation on my issue, I'm now back looking for an attorney who can assist me. He misrepresented himself and wasted my time.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
