Overview
George Buehler has extensive experience in both civil and criminal litigation with an emphasis on business litigation and white collar criminal defense. He has litigated numerous jury trials, and has represented clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies and their officers, smaller business entities, and individuals. His clients have included Sears, Roebuck and Co., Marubeni Corporation, Daewoo Corporation, Unocal, Litton Industries, General Dynamics, and McDonnell Douglas.
Mr. Buehler’s legal career began with a clerkship with the Honorable Robert Gardner, Presiding Justice of the California Court of Appeal, Fourth District. He then joined the Special Operations Division of the California Attorney General’s Office where he spent three years investigating financial frauds in public and nonprofit organizations. In 1978 Mr. Buehler entered private practice with Douglas Dalton, a prominent criminal defense lawyer in Los Angeles, and then in 1982 joined the small firm of Miller and Nolan in Beverly Hills where he specialized in white-collar criminal defense for 10 years. He then joined and became a partner in the international law firm of Howrey Simon Arnold & White, where he practiced both white-collar criminal defense and complex civil business litigation. Mr. Buehler joined the prominent Los Angeles criminal-law firm Geragos & Geragos in 2001 to focus more of his practice on criminal matters. He handles all types of criminal cases in state and federal courts as well as representing corporate and individual clients in civil litigation.
Mr. Buehler is on the board of directors of the Inner City Law Center, which provides legal services to the poor and brings actions against slumlords who maintain substandard housing in violation of building codes. From 1997 to 2000 he served on the Blue Ribbon Commission for Slum Housing, which developed legislation to improve the enforcement of building codes which was adopted by the Los Angeles City Council. In addition, he is on the board of advisors of Uncommon Good, which raises funds for debt relief for young lawyers and doctors who devote themselves to public service.
Mr. Buehler graduated from Occidental College with a BA in 1970 and received his JD from the University of Southern California in 1974. He received an MA in Theology in 1989 from Fuller Theological Seminary. Mr. Buehler is admitted to practice in California, US District Court in Central, Eastern, and Southern Districts of CA; Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal; and US District Court, Arizona.
