Education
After graduating from high school at The Bishop's School in La Jolla, CA, Joe attended Georgetown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Spanish. During his time in Washington, DC, Joe worked on Capitol Hill for three years. After graduating from college, Joe returned to San Diego and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law.
Career
While in law school, Joe clerked for both the criminal division of the San Diego County City Attorney's Office and the Appellate Division of the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. By the end of law school, Joe had made dozens of court appearances and had won more than a dozen motions on behalf of the citizens of San Diego County. From this hands-on experience, he gained valuable insights into the criminal prosecutions and inner workings of the courts and legal system. Immediately upon graduating from law school, Joe began working at a large, national AmLaw 100 firm. He represented an extensive and diverse client base, ranging from billion-dollar international companies to local San Diegans. Joe's practice focused on protecting his clients' rights and interests in a variety of contexts. He took and defended hundreds of depositions across the country, prepared and argued motions in trial and appellate courts, and engaged in numerous trials in state and federal courts throughout Southern California.
On May 1, 2013, Joe opened The Sammartino Law Group.
Practice
Joe is admitted to practice before all state courts in California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Courts for the Central, Eastern, and Southern Districts of California.
Personal
Joe resides with his wife and two children in La Jolla, CA. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis and golf, as well as spending time with his family.
