Mr. Burns helped me during a very difficult time. He listened well and educated me in a clear and simple manner. i was very impressed with his competence and professionalism. I'm sure nobody likes to have to go through a bankruptcy proceeding. He and his office staff made it painless. I am so glad I found him. I am so much better off (financially and emotionally)

"Tom Burns has worked on a number of legal issues for me. Each time I found him personable and friendly, easy to communicate with, and a careful listener. He was generous with his time and answered all of my many questions. Most importantly Tom successfully resolved all of the issues. Tom's response to me was speedy, his staff is helpful and friendly, his advice is excellent, and his judgment is sound. I cannot say enough good things about him, and I can recommend him unconditionally. Bravo! "

My experience with Mr. Burns' office was very positive. I recommend him highly. He was very sympathetic to my financial situation and got me through a very tough time. I was comforted by his expertise and knowledge. It was obvious that he has been doing this for a very long time. I wish I had done this much sooner. Don't hesitate to give his office a call.

I fully endorse Tom Burns as a Bankruptcy attorney! This is an attorney that seriously knows the bankruptcy laws and more importantly does exactly what he says he going to do. HE ABSOLUTELY SAVED ME FROM A POTENTIAL 25% WAGE GARNISHMENT IN A MATTER OF WEEKS! Bankruptcy is a very scary situation and Tom gets right to the point, makes you feel very comfortable, is extremely easy to retain. I went to 5 other attorneys and Tom Burns was much more affordable than all of them, but his work is just as good and even better! Then when I fell behind on my Chapter 13 Bankruptcy payments and was in danger of getting my case dismissed by the trustee of San Francisco, which would have put me in a dire financial situation, Tom saved me from a case dismissal. I have only had to go to court 1 time, and Tom handles all of the other appearances. You absolutely need an attorney who actually does what he says he is going to do and i can guarantee you that if you retain Tom Burns you will be 100% satisfied with his work. I am a financial mess: State & Federal Taxes, Credit Card debt, Student Loans, and Tom has truly helped me dig out of very scary hole; I make 1 payment every month to a Trustee and I know that in 5 years after I fulfill my obligations that I will make my way out of this financial abyss and be a normal person with a solid credit score again. YOU WOULD BE VERY WISE TO USE TOM BURNS FOR ANY BANKRUPTCY CASE.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
