Firm Information

Overview

Representing Individuals & Businesses

Williams & Gumbiner LLP is a new firm of veteran lawyers with its main office in Marin County. The firm provides quality, cost-effective legal services to clients throughout California and the West, meeting the legal needs of larger commercial, small business and individual clients through personalized service. Traditionally, a litigation firm, the lawyers at Williams & Gumbiner are equally adept at representing clients in State and Federal trial and appellate courts, as they are at solving insurance and other issues at the earliest stages of any dispute.

The Firm

The lawyers at Williams & Gumbiner LLP have well over 100 years of experience representing businesses, municipal entities, condominium and homeowners associations and individuals, in the following areas:

  • Insurance litigation including coverage and “bad faith” cases
  • insurance coverage opinions, disability insurance claims and appeals, “Examinations under Oath”, Appraisal hearings, claims negotiations and other insurance-related services to get claims paid.
  • construction defect litigation
  • transportation and freight cases
  • landslide and flood cases
  • eminent domain (and inverse condemnation)
  • complex personal injury matters

Because so much of the firm’s work involves property damage claims arising from fire, interior water damage, flood, earthquake, landslides and other man-made and natural disasters, it has expertise in all aspects of such claims and take a “big picture” approach to its clients’ particular issues and needs. Sometimes the most expeditious and cost-effective way to recovery is through insurance; sometimes litigation against builders, developers, property owners or government entities is necessary.

The firm’s clientele is diverse including national and international companies, municipal entities, contractors and developers, homeowners and individual policyholders and homeowners. Williams & Gumbiner attorneys have litigated against national law firms in dozens of multi-million dollar cases, and enjoy the intellectually challenging work in a small firm environment.

The firm’s offices are within easy reach of all Northern California courts, but the attorneys have represented clients throughout California and nationally from Hawaii to Florida.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
