Visalia Criminal Law Firm
Overview
I am John Patrick Ryan, a Visalia-based attorney serving clients throughout the Central San Joaquin Valley region of California. My solo practice law firm assists clients with criminal defense and general civil matters.
Whether you have been charged with a crime or you are facing any other legal problem, you have rights, and an experienced lawyer can help you protect those rights. I was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1994. As a former public defender, former corporate lawyer practicing in Russia, and now independent attorney, I have handled hundreds of cases in a wide range of practice areas.
At a big law firm, you may have your initial consultation with one lawyer and then have a completely different lawyer show up when you need representation at a hearing or trial. When you hire me, you get me. Criminal defense matters are extremely serious, and it is important to have an attorney by your side who understands your case, your concerns and your goals.
If you are looking for a law firm to handle your criminal defense or other civil case in an aggressive, hardworking and personalized manner, don't hesitate to contact me, attorney John Patrick Ryan. My office is conveniently located in downtown Visalia, and I offer a free half-hour consultation. Se habla Español.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
