Overview
Plaintiff Attorney Adam Smestad, Of Counsel, at Black, Blink, & Associates LLC, practices Personal Injury in Colorado and Illinois. As a seasoned litigator and master negotiator, Adam aggressively advocates on behalf of his clients to defend their right to be made whole after an accident. Upon his admission to the Illinois Bar Association in 2010, Adam defended homeowners at the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services as a foreclosure defense attorney. Defending the rights of clients quickly became Adam’s passion and he joined a Chicago law firm as a personal injury litigation attorney, representing injured plaintiffs in court, arbitration, negotiating settlements, and in trial before judges and juries, helping his clients obtain millions of dollars in settlements and jury verdicts.
As a Plaintiff’s Attorney, Adam represents clients in the areas of Personal Injury including: motor vehicle accidents, defective and dangerous products, real estate disputes, contract disputes, premises liability matters, brain injury, dog bites, workplace injuries, and more. Adam takes pride in representing his clients’ interest in obtaining compensation for their injuries and is dedicated to advocating on their behalf until they receive justice and are fairly compensated. He believes in treating every client with respect and understands the importance of communicating the litigation process to his clients.
When Adam isn’t defending the rights of his clients he enjoys writing and producing films, hiking, biking, weightlifting, running, baseball, snowboarding/skiing, watching movies and live music.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
