Attorney Information

Overview

For over 20 years, Ted has handled complex civil litigation and traumatic bodily injury accident claims which have consistently resulted in multimillion dollar settlements and judgments for his clients. Ted is an aggressive negotiator and advocate who persists relentlessly until he obtains the settlement or outcome that aligns with what the client wants and with what the case deserves. After this, everything else is okay.

Guided by family values and community ties, Ted began his path to representing injury victims in Chandler, Mesa, and Gilbert in 2018, when his family started spending winters in Arizona and quickly grew attached to the East Valley. He intended to open his Arizona practice at that time, but the pandemic temporarily delayed those plans. With his son now attending college nearby and strong connections throughout the area, Ted is proud to call Arizona home and to serve clients across Chandler, Mesa, and Gilbert with a unique blend of legal skill and medical understanding.

Many attorneys shy away from saying they are trial lawyers because they have fallen into the trap of tort reform and the marketing efforts implored by the insurance industry.

These efforts are made by the insurance industry in order to make trial lawyers look bad and be viewed as the cause of society's problems, such as the rise of insurance rates and frivolous lawsuits. But Attorney Bills proudly represents injured victims and gives them a fighting chance at obtaining compensation.

Ted strongly believes that his job is to be an advocate for injured people. He is fully capable of negotiating excellent and fair settlements out of court, but he is not afraid to fight relentlessly for a just verdict when the case and client require it.

FIRSTHAND MEDICAL EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE OF BODILY INJURIES

Prior to law school, Ted worked at the local city-owned Memorial Hospital, which is now run by the University of Colorado Health. There, he worked in the ER and trauma center assisting doctors and nurses with direct patient care services. He also worked in orthopedics, where he assisted orthopedic surgeons with surgical procedures for broken bones, spinal cord injuries, fractures, total knees surgeries, hip surgeries, and more.

Ted also performed casting, splinting, and traction and worked in physical therapy where he helped people learn to walk again. Basically, whatever the surgeon needed help doing, Ted did.

Because Ted had to transcribe, read, and interpret physician orders, he can read and understand doctor notes and records. This, as you can imagine, is important when representing a personal injury client who has a multitude of bodily injuries. Mr. Bills knows medical terminology, human anatomy, and human physiology, which is a huge advantage when handling personal injury cases in which adequate medical coverage is being withheld or denied.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Ted Bills received his undergraduate degree in business from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. When he took business law, Ted knew right then that if he got a law degree, he could use his medical background to help injured people in a different way than most other lawyers. In law school, he emphasized his studies in the area of torts and received a special national award for his outstanding performance in the area of tort law. He received his law degree from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas, graduating in 2003.

Upon admission to the Colorado Bar, Attorney Bills was hired by a preeminent insurance defense firm that handled mostly trucking litigation defense for insurers of truck drivers in the states of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and Wyoming. Here, Ted learned all the tricks of the trade regarding what insurance companies do to prevent exposure and lower the amount of money they have to pay an injured person. Because Ted wanted to represent injured parties instead of insurance companies, he opened his own personal injury law firm.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
