Overview

Stephen Whitmore is the senior partner of the firm’s Civil Litigation Practice and the office lead of the Denver Metro Office. Having practiced in Colorado since 1992, Steve has successfully litigated hundreds of cases in state, federal, and administrative courts.

Steve handles cases involving commercial litigation, contract disputes, landlord and tenant matters, collections, foreclosures, replevin actions, construction defects, mechanic’s liens, and more.

He represents both plaintiffs and defendants, and his clients have included banks, management companies, lenders, construction companies, car dealers, small businesses, and individuals.

Representative matters
  • Breach of contract - Obtained jury verdict win for subcontractor, recovering more than $100,000 for his client
  • Federal civil lawsuit - Negotiated a $200,000 bank loan down to $15,000 on behalf of a client defended in federal district court
  • Excessive force - Successfully sued a local sheriff’s department and city in federal court, negotiating a $16,000 settlement on behalf of the client
  • Mechanic’s lien - Assisted a general contractor with preparation and recording of a mechanic’s lien to obtain payment from client
  • Defamation lawsuit - Defended a client from comments made on social media, resulting in the case’s dismissal
  • Easement termination - Drafted a Notice of Termination of Easement to formally end an informal property use agreement
