Overview
Westermann Hamilton Sheehy Aydelott & Keenan, LLP is an AV rated law firm specializing in litigation and dedicated to the effective representation of its clients. Our practice includes the areas of construction, construction defects, suretyship, medical malpractice and hospital liability defense, general liability defense, workers’ compensation, products liability, personal injury, employment law, real estate and commercial finance, and general business representation.
The firm, as it exists today, is the result of a merger of two litigation firms that have been providing quality representation to their clients for a quarter of a century. Westermann Hamilton & Sheehy, LLP, established its practice representing sureties and major construction firms in the northeast. At the same time, the attorneys of Aydelott Aydelott & Keenan were building an impressive trial record handling medical malpractice, products liability, personal injury and employment discrimination cases.
The merged firm draws its strength from experienced lawyers who are committed to the zealous representation of their clients from commencement of the case through jury verdict and appeal if required. The firm offers its clients quality, results-oriented representation with experts in all areas, access to lawyers with significant litigation experience and proven trial records, and the expanded resources and facilities of a larger firm. Though the firm has grown, the hallmark of our practice is still our devotion to our clients.
We have offices in Garden City and White Plains, New York, Saddle River, New Jersey, and Darien, Connecticut. Our lawyers are admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
