Overview

Peter Gold is the President of The Gold Group, Chartered, a legal services and merchant banking firm. Mr. Gold represents U.S. and European investment banks and hedge funds regarding antitrust and other regulatory issues that arise in merger arbitrage. In addition, he provides legal and counsel on special situations involving litigation analysis, legislative developments and distressed situations.

For the decade preceding the formation of The Gold Group, Peter Gold co-founded Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam, & Roberts' Washington Office and managed its Legislative and Regulatory Department. He worked extensively with trade associations, foreign governments, foreign and domestic corporations, and Native American organizations.

Prior to his return to the private sector, Peter Gold was the Legislative Director to U.S. Senator Gary Hart (D-CO) for the period 1975-1981. He was the National Coordinator for Policy and Personnel in the Senator's 1984 Presidential Campaign.

Before moving to Washington, Mr. Gold spent four years as a litigation and corporate attorney in the New York office of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.

Mr. Gold is a graduate of Cornell University (A.B.), The London School of Economics (M.Sc.), and New York University School of Law (J.D.). He was Editor-in-Chief of the New York University Review of Law and Social Change.

Mr. Gold co-founded and is Chairman of First Book, the nation's largest privately funded literacy organization focused on providing disadvantaged children their first new books. To date, First Book has distributed more than 55 million books to children in need. For more than twenty years, Mr. Gold has been a Board member and Executive Committee member of Share Our Strength, an international hunger relief organization.
