Overview
Lisa K. Bennett is a family law attorney at Fischler, Friedman, & Bennett, P.A. Ms. Bennett attended Boston University where she received a Bachelor of Science in journalism and psychology in 1979. She graduated from the University of Miami School of Law and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1984. Upon completion of law school, she clerked for United States District Court Judge, Edward B. Davis in the Southern District of Florida in Miami. After completing an extended clerkship with The Honorable "Ned" Davis, Ms. Bennett entered into private practice with the firm of Arky Freed, Et. Al. in 1985, which later became Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A. While at those firms, she practiced in the fields of bankruptcy, commercial litigation, and federal trademark and patent infringement litigation. Ms. Bennett became a partner at Stearns Weaver in 1990.
In 1998, Ms. Bennett retired from the practice of law to raise her two children and spend time with her family. During this time, she also served as president of Temple Dor Dorim in Weston where she oversaw the building of a new temple facility. From 2001 to 2004, Ms. Bennett served as Assistant Regional Director for the Southeast Council of the Union for Reform Judaism.
Ms. Bennett returned to the practice of law in 2006 when she joined Fischler, Friedman, & Bennett, P.A. Drawing upon her diverse litigation experience, Ms. Bennett parlayed into the practice of family law, and now focuses exclusively on matters relating to divorce, paternity, child custody, child support, timesharing and the drafting of pre and post marital agreements.
As an experienced family law attorney, Ms. Bennett takes a hands-on approach to client representation and works to create a strategy to fit each client's individual needs. Using the knowledge and training she gained from her Family Law Mediator Certification, Ms. Bennett seeks to resolve clients' legal matters through mediation, arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods. When those methods are not appropriate, Ms. Bennett, an experienced litigator, is prepared to protect her clients' rights in the courtroom.
Lisa Bennett continues to be active in the community of South Florida, serving on the Broward County executive board for American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and on the planning committee for the David Posnack JCC Jewish Book Festival. How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
