JAMES R. MYERS is a partner in the Fort Myers Regional Office. He is licensed to practice in Florida and is a member of the Lee County and Charlotte County Bar Associations. He is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida.
Since August of 2004, Mr. Myers has been the managing attorney of the Fort Myers office, which is a part of the State of Florida Operations overseen by partner and managing shareholder Steven Brady in Orlando, FL. He currently concentrates his practice in civil litigation defense, handling insurance claim disputes, commercial contract disputes, product liability, premises liability, toxic tort (asbestos and silica), and personal injury claims in Florida federal and state courts. He is also defending federal flood insurance claims being brought under the National Flood Insurance Program, and FEMA regulations for hurricane losses in Florida.
Prior to coming to Swartz Campbell in 2001, Mr. Myers worked for a 125-lawyer corporate firm where he obtained a broad-based litigation background in areas including real property, eminent domain, construction, commercial and residential foreclosures, contract and commercial tort disputes, landlord and tenant litigation, and condominium and homeowners association law.
Mr. Myers attended Purdue University, where he obtained a B.S. in Industrial Management. He earned his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1991. He graduated cum laude, ranking 13th in his class of 228. While in law school, he became a member of the Order of the Woolsack (Jesuit school equivalent to Order of the Coif), was inducted in to Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honor Society, and he served as Executive Editor of the St. Louis University Law Journal. He was also awarded a faculty fellowship and spent a summer researching and writing for the law school's Torts and Real Property professors, Nick Terry and Peter Wendel.
In 1990, his article "Dram Shop Liability: The Blurry Status of Drinking Companions" was published in the St. Louis University Law Journal.
Mr. Myers has been a Florida Certified circuit and county court civil mediator since 1998.
Prior to law school, Mr. Myers spent seven years as a property and casualty insurance professional in Harleysville, PA. During that time, he achieved both the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) and the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations.
