Susan grew up in South Florida, it was a very difficult upbringing, not a very close family. Susan decided to join the Air Force at 17 yrs of age. During her time in the Air Force, she was trained in munitions, and was quickly promoted to the rank of Tech Sergeant, she was honorable discharged and went on to make a living in civilian life.
Upon returning to South Florida, Susan went to work in the hospitality business working at a restaurant as a server, moving up to become a trainer and then was asked if she would like to become a bartender, which she did. Working in the hospitality business taught Susan to appreciate the differences of people and becoming a great listener. Never to judge a book by its cover, treating everyone she meets with respect and honesty.
Susan met her husband and moved to Northern California, got married and had her first child, a delightful baby girl. After a few years, the family moved to Southern California and Susan had her second beautiful daughter. Unfortunately, the marriage did not work out, so Susan moved to Denver, Colorado.
Susan attended Columbia College to prove to herself that she could do it … get a degree while being a single mother!! Susan went to school at night while she worked full time during the day, while taking care of 2 small children. During her time in Colorado, Susan and her daughters were in a terrible auto accident. They were pushed off the road by a drunk driver at 10:00 in the morning, and the car rolled three times. She said, “The best sound I have ever heard in my entire life, was my daughters crying when the car stopped rolling”. By the grace of God her two daughters were not injured, but she sustained lifelong injuries. While undergoing many doctor’s and physical therapy appointments, Susan completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and graduated Cum Laude with a 3.62 GPA.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Susan wanted to take on a more difficult challenge and moved to Lansing, Michigan to attend Law School. She started Thomas M. Cooley Law School in the Fall of 1998 and acquired a concentration in Litigation. Susan was the President of the St. Thomas More Society and participated in Moot Court. Susan worked part time at the State Prosecutor’s office, volunteered at her daughter’s school and, attended many doctors and physical therapy appointments while attending law school.
After graduation, Susan wanted to move back to Sunny Florida, she visited Pensacola in 2003 and fell in love with it. After studying for and taking the Florida Bar Exam she had a difficult decision to make, whether to leave her oldest daughter in Michigan to finish College at Michigan State University and move to Florida or stay in Michigan. She decided to move to Florida. Susan feels that she made the right decision as now her oldest daughter is an Emergency Room doctor, and her younger daughter is an attorney.
Susan was an assistant State Attorney in Okaloosa and Escambia Counties. During her time in the Prosecutor’s office Susan was thrown into court in her first week and she oversaw hundreds of cases including misdemeanors and felonies, attended court daily, arguing motions and trying cases. Susan was a past President of the Okaloosa/Walton Bar Association in 2009. After 3 years at the State Attorney’s office, Susan opened her own law firm focusing primarily on criminal defense, bankruptcy, consumer law, and foreclosure defense.
With a combination of life experiences, education, training, and the multiple hours spent in the courtroom, Susan is distinctively qualified to represent your interests when you need it most.
