Boise Business Law Lawyer
Overview
Michael Pope ("Mike") is a seasoned civil litigator and courtroom attorney, having appeared before all Courts in Idaho, including the Idaho Supreme Court, on a variety of matters, primarily in insurance defense litigation. For almost four years Mike was the Idaho attorney for a major insurance company representing insureds all over Idaho in personal injury and property damage matters from case inception to resolution through settlement, mediation, or trial. Mike's practice now includes construction and business litigation, personal injury law, contract matters, and real estate law for both plaintiffs and defendants.
Mike's expertise is legal research, writing, and oral argument to the district and appellate courts. Mike is also skilled in mediating claims and disputes on behalf of his clients. He cares about his clients and works tirelessly to see that their position in a case is presented to the court or jury so that the best outcome for them can be reached. As a result of Mike's efforts, significant decisions have been issued by the Idaho Supreme Court regarding the Idaho Bail Act and the application of Idaho's dog bite statutes to landlords whose tenants have been sued for their dog injuring someone.
Mike grew up in Boise and graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a minor in Canadian Studies. Mike obtained a Paralegal Certificate from the Denver Paralegal Institute and went to work for a major law firm in Dallas, Texas representing victims of asbestos exposure. Mike received his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California. Mike clerked for the Honorable Nathan W. Higer in Jerome, Gooding, and Twin Falls Counties in Idaho; and then returned to Boise to work for a small insurance defense law firm to begin his legal career.
Mike enjoys traveling the country to see live musical performances and watching hockey.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
