Chicago Family Law Lawyer

Overview

Daniel R. Hernandez is a visionary social entrepreneur and attorney dedicated to making legal services accessible and affordable for all. At the age of 27, Daniel founded NextLevel Law, P.C., with a mission to provide competent legal services at fixed, affordable costs. His innovative business model, which offers clients flat-monthly subscription fees for legal services, has significantly reduced overall legal costs and created a ripple effect in the legal community.

As the CEO and Principal Attorney of NextLevel Law, Daniel oversees the firm's operations, including revenue management, marketing strategies, and client acquisition. He also mentors associate attorneys and manages the firm's caseload, ensuring that client needs are met with the highest standards of legal representation. Daniel's practice areas include family law, real estate, and LGBT rights, where he provides both courtroom and out-of-court representation.

In addition to his role at NextLevel Law, Daniel is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, where he teaches Family Law and has previously instructed courses on courtroom techniques and expert learning. His commitment to education and mentorship extends to his students, whom he regularly meets to provide feedback and guidance.

Daniel's dedication to community service is evident through his extensive volunteer work. He serves as a Commissioner on the Chicago Commission on Human Relations and is the President Emeritus of the Board of Directors at Between Friends, a nonprofit focused on ending domestic violence. He is also actively involved with the Hispanic National Bar Association, where he holds various leadership positions.

Daniel's contributions to the legal profession and his community have earned him numerous accolades, including being named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers for several consecutive years and receiving the Top Attorney Under 40 award from the Hispanic National Bar Association. His work has also been recognized by Crain’s Business Chicago and Business Equality Magazine.

Daniel is fluent in Spanish, which allows him to serve a broader range of clients and connect with diverse communities. In his spare time, Daniel enjoys rollerblading along Chicago's lakefront path and spending time with friends.

From the very start, Daniel makes you feel welcomed. I could not have asked for a more supportive, thorough, and professional experience during a family court experience. I felt that I was in great hands from my initial phone call.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
