Attorney Information

Overview

Since joining Patrick Salvi over ten years ago, firm Principal Michael Schostok has handled numerous million-dollar settlements and jury verdicts. His trial expertise is evident in the significant verdicts he has obtained for clients injured as a result of diverse instances of negligent conduct including medical malpractice, automobile collisions, and premises liability.

In May of 2001, Mr. Salvi & Mr. Schostok obtained a $13.3 million verdict for a four-year old boy who suffered injuries to his left shoulder and arm at the time of birth. This verdict is the largest in Illinois history for an injury of this type. In 1995, Mr. Schostok obtained a $13.1 million settlement for a construction worker severely injured in an accident at the Merchandise Mart. It was Cook County's largest settlement at that time. The plaintiff in that case was standing on a self-operating scaffold, which tipped over after the Merchandise Mart construction engineers changed the base of the system.

Over the last 15 years, Mr. Schostok has successfully tried more than 50 jury cases. His trial expertise is evident in the over $55 million he has obtained on behalf of injured clients.

After graduating from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (B.A. 1983), and the Capital University School of Law in Columbus, Ohio (J.D. 1986), Mr. Schostok worked for the Lake County State's Attorney's office prosecuting traffic, misdemeanor and felony crimes. He joined Patrick A. Salvi in 1989 and was made partner in 1996, when the firm changed its name to Salvi & Schostok, P.C. Over the last eleven years, he has tried more than 50 jury cases.

In addition to his duties as principal of Salvi Schostok & Pritchard P.C., Mr. Schostok sits on the Board of Managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the plaintiff's bar in Illinois. He is also the seminar-planning chairman in charge of continuing legal education for that organization. In 1997, he was elected to the Board of Governors of the Illinois State Bar Association, the largest volunteer state bar association in the country.
