David graduated from Purdue's Krannert School of Management with a Bachelors of Science degree in Management, focusing on Finance.

His coursework also included a focus on the intersection of business and the law. He attended Valparaiso University School of Law where he received the degree of Juris Doctor.

While attending law school David did Pro bono work assisting the City of Hobart Public Defender's Office in criminal, Misdemeanor and traffic cases. He is a general practitioner, serving a number of areas of law such as family law, estate planning, probate disputes, civil litigation, and criminal and traffic defense. Attorney Kacmarik is admitted to practice in the Northern and Southern Indiana Districts of the United States District Court. He is active in a number of local civic and business organizations. He is also a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Lake county Bar Association.
