Landrum & Shouse LLP
Lexington Trucking Defense Lawyer
Overview
Since the founding of our law firm in 1956, Landrum & Shouse has defended transportation industry clients against serious catastrophic injury claims. Our trucking litigation practice includes the representation of numerous national and international trucking companies as well as smaller, more locally based carriers.
Myself and my partner, Michael E. Hammond, are active members of the Trucking Industry Defense Association, a group of trucking industry claims representatives, risk managers, company owners and attorneys. Members are kept up to date with the frequent changes to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as well as other national and state regulatory changes and case decisions. Mike and I have extensive trial and litigation experience in both the state and federal courts of Kentucky.
Our trucking litigation group at Landrum & Shouse maintains a rapid response team of accident reconstructionists, human factors experts, law enforcement personnel, and medical experts that are available for immediate investigation and/or consultation following an accident involving a commercial motor vehicle.
I am a retired United States Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel. Additionally, I am a Kentucky Super Lawyers and a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rated attorney. For the past 21 years my practice has been devoted totally to civil litigation defense.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
