Louisville Personal Injury Lawyer

Overview

My life has been absolutely incredible. I have been able to experience many things and develop relationships with an extraordinary amount of extraordinary people. Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1972, I have lived my whole life in the great Bluegrass state. I have traveled many places but I love the people here, the seasonal weather, Derby and college sports teams: great place to raise a family. The following will tell you about my journeys in life so you can understand me better as an attorney but more importantly as a person.

I attended Trinity High School where I was chosen to be Student Body President and serve on the School Board in 1990. I won the Senior Leadership Award and was chosen as Mr. Trinity at my Senior Prom. After turning down several college scholarships to the likes of Xavier University, Dayton and Bellarmine College , I chose to attend the University of Kentucky where I graduated in 1994 with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting. College was a great experience; I had a lot of fun and was a proud member of the SAE fraternity. Law School followed at the University of Louisville where I graduated in 1997. I made the Deans List in Law School while serving on the Moot Court Board and clerking for three years under Mike Conliffe at the Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office. I am currently honored to be serving on the U of L Law School Alumni Council as it's youngest member.

Upon receiving my law degree, it was time to study for the Bar Exam. A little more than 50% of my classmates passed the Bar on the first attempt. Fortunately, I worked hard and passed both the Kentucky and Indiana Bar Exams on the first try! I immediately became a County Prosecutor and worked for a small law firm doing Personal Injury cases and Real Estate transactions. After a couple of years, I chose to take a major paycut and serve as a State Prosecutor in the Narcotics Division. These experiences were incredible hands-on learning experiences. Being in the courtroom on a daily basis has helped me get an edge on the competition as far as litigation experience, negotiation tactics and invaluable courthouse relationships.

The time was ripe in 2000 to start my own law practice. Scott T. Roby, Attorney at Law, PSC has been going strong since the turn of the century in both Kentucky and Indiana. I am able to help people in this often confusing legal system. I pride myself on adding the personal touch to each case. Treating people as equals during what is one of the most important events in their life is a must for a good attorney. My goal is to make little problems disappear while disallowing major problems from ruining client's lives. I strive for the best possible results and am proud to say that I get them. My ego never gets in the way of what is best for my client : I handle major cases quietly and try not to let the media expose my clients. Client confidentiality is very important to me.

I handle both Criminal and Personal Injury cases as you can see listed on my website. I have a steady network of trusted attorney contacts who I refer other areas of the law such as Divorce, Bankruptcy, Estate, Business and Tax Law. Helping people in difficult times is what I am here for. There is nothing worse than having sirens at a scene because of you whether you are in trouble with the law or being placed in an ambulance. Those times are when you need to call Scott Roby at 502-777-4738. That number goes to me directly - not to a secretary or receptionist who did not go to law school. You will talk to me !

Aside from being on the U of L Law School Board, I am also a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, Louisville Bar Association and American Bar Association. I won the KBA Award for CLE in 2000 and the KBA Pro Bono Award in 2007. I am also a licensed Sports Agent which is a lot of fun. Sports are my favorite thing to do and watch when I am not at work or with my wonderful family. I have had the opportunity to attend the World Series, NCAA basketball Final 4 and championship, Superbowl XL, Masters, Daytona 500, Indy 500, Orange Bowl and a big Heavyweight fight. Along with those priceless events I shared with family and friends, I coach various youth teams: YMCA football, kids soccer, tee ball and basketball.

When you call me, you get someone who cares and understands on the other line. I don't judge or discriminate against anyone. BY THE WAY, I LIKE TO WIN!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
