Overview

Richard P. Arnold was born in Watertown, South Dakota on October 27, 1941. He served four years in the United States Navy from 1960-64 and was released with an honorable discharge. After he earned his bachelor of arts degree at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1967, he attended the National Law Center at George Washington University and completed his Juris Doctorate in 1970. Mr Arnold's first job in his legal career was as a law clerk to the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County in Annapolis, Maryland. While working for the sitting Judges, he attended Bar Review classes evenings, passed the Maryland Bar and was admitted to the Maryland Bar in December of 1970.

After spending one year in his clerkship, the next step of his legal career took him to the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office, in 1971 where he was appointed as an assistant State's Attorney. In 1974, he was admitted to practice before the United States District Court, District of Maryland, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, and the United States Supreme Court. He was promoted to Division Chief in 1977. As a Prosecutor, Mr. Arnold gained exposure to the full range of criminal law as practiced in Maryland and built his reputation as a tough and able prosecutor. In 1985, he resigned from the State's Attorney's Office and became the Chief Special Counsel for the Attorney General of the State of Maryland, where he served for two years.

In 1987, he retired from state service and opened his private criminal law practice, where he turned his experience to the service of criminal defendants from throughout central Maryland. He is currently a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Prince George's County Bar Association, the National Criminal Defense Attorney's Association, and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorney's Association. His dedication to excellence in legal service has earned him the recognition of his peers with a top rating of outstanding to preeminent in the respected Martindale Hubbell Legal Directory.
