Attorney Information

Overview

Phil Paras was born and raised on the outskirts of Chicago in Northwest Indiana. He is now proud to call Michigan his home.

Phil attended Indiana University for his undergraduate and received his Juris Doctorate from Northern Illinois University School of Law in 2020. While in law school, he participated in Moot Court and the Trial Competition. During law school, Phil was also employed as a student attorney in the Health Advocacy clinic where he assisted injured and sick victims with their legal needs.

Upon graduating law school, Phil received admission to practice law in Massachusetts and Illinois. In Boston, he found himself trying criminal defense and personal injury cases. Family disputes, business litigation and civil rights claims were his main areas of focus.

Phil returned to the Midwest in 2022 and was immediately admitted to practice law in Michigan. Since being admitted to practice in Michigan, Phil has solely focused his practice on personal injury cases. He has handled countless of cases that include motor vehicle accidents, slip/trip and falls, and general negligence. He takes great pride in helping injured victims with their legal needs in Michigan, and continues to do so for Scott Goodwin Law P.C.

When Phil is not fighting for his clients, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and time outside.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
