Overview
Codie Burt graduated with her Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law in the spring of 2021 (Go Green!) and subsequently was admitted to the Michigan State Bar in November 2021. During her law school career, Codie was a peer mentor in the Reading, Writing and Analysis Department for the law school, gained her certificate to become a Civil Facilitative Mediator and worked in-house as a legal intern at Jackson National Life Insurance Company before starting her career at Herbert Machnik Law Firm.
Before law school, Codie had worked in a variety of professional fields. She started her career in the medical field working in the offices of several surgeons and eventually became a Bariatric Surgical Coordinator. She has worked in retail and sales, the hospitality industry and assisted with her parents’ archery business.
As an active member of her community, Codie has chosen to be a BIG through Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Kalamazoo and has been matched with her Little since the beginning of 2016. In addition to being a BIG, Codie has served on a Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids' Sake Event Committee beginning in 2019 and assists with the Annual Women’s Breakfast for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Codie is a Board Member and Secretary for the EPIC Center in Kalamazoo, Board Member-Vice President of the KZOO Spartans Alumni, Board Member on the Kalamazoo County Bar Association as well as on various committees with the Kalamazoo County Bar Association.
Born and raised in the Lansing area, Codie spent four years in Dallas/Fort Worth and finally moved to Kalamazoo in 2015 with her husband Josh. Josh is a Golf Professional who provides golf instruction at the Golf Performance Academy in Kalamazoo. They have two four-legged fur children Izzy and Twyla who love to guard the house from neighbors and delivery men. In her spare time, due to her husband’s career, Codie has taken up golf as one of her hobbies. Her other hobbies include watching or attending any MSU sporting event, camping, running/working out, reading, puzzles and game nights with family and friends.
