  • Collecting Past Due Accounts
  • Defending Defective Construction Claims
  • Defending OSHA Violations
  • Contract drafting
  • Representing Hispanic contractors who need to communicate with Alec in Spanish
In 2014, Alec began his legal career at the Missouri State Public Defender's Office, Kansas City Trial Division. As a public defender, Alec actively participated in 6 jury trials and more than ten judge-tried "bench" trials.
Alec has been recognized as a "Rising Star" in Kansas and Missouri in the field of construction litigation in 2020, 2021, and 2022. To be recognized as a "Rising Star", Alec was voted by his lawyer peers and then selected by Super Lawyers as one of the top 2.5% of all lawyers under the age of 40 in Kansas and Missouri.
Alec lived in Italy for four years and speaks fluent Italian and Spanish. He is married and when not working, loves spending time with his wife outdoors - hiking, camping, backpacking, shooting, and archery.
Some of Alec's trial results include:

In a trial in the Associate Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri involving a contractor dispute on a commercial construction project, Alec obtained a judgment in favor of his client against its subcontractor for failure to perform punch list work. Alec's client was awarded the cost to complete the punch list work that the subcontractor failed to finish per contract.

In a trial in the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri involving a contractor dispute on a commercial construction project, Alec obtained a judgment for a roofing subcontractor against the general contractor for unpaid roofing work. This case involved allegations of defective repairs to a TPO style roof and a complex liability analysis of the responsible party for the subsequent leaks.
In a trial in the Associate Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri involving reconstruction of a deck, Alec obtained a judgment for a deck/roofing contractor against a homeowner who refused to pay. The case involved an analysis of the work conforming to the contract and different styles of roofs.
In a trial in the Associate Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri involving water mitigation work, Alec obtained a judgment for a restoration contractor against a homeowner who refused to pay. Alec recovered the full amount of the restoration bill and his client's attorney's fees.
In a trial in the Associate Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri involving plumbing work on a residence, Alec obtained a judgment for a plumbing contractor against a homeowner who refused to pay. This case involved allegations of defective plumbing work against his client, which required expert testimony to analyze how the slope of the land affected the locations of certain pipes. Alec and his client were able to overcome all such allegations, resulting in an award for the full amount of the plumbing bill, including interest.
In an arbitration involving a dispute over who's responsibility it was to pay the architect on a commercial construction project in Johnson County, Kansas, Alec assisted in obtaining an arbitration award for the client in an amount in excess of $820,000.00. The arbitration award included all past due amounts for architectural services, all attorney's fees incurred by the architect, and all interest incurred at the elevated rate of 18% per annum pursuant to the Kansas Fairness in Private Construction Contract Act. The arbitrator found not only the company that signed the contract with the architect on the project liable for the architect's damages, but under a theory of "piercing the corporate veil" the parent company to the contracting company was also held jointly and severally liable for all amounts awarded.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
