Poisson is a bum. He worked with the defense and dropped me as a client without speaking to me about it in person. He wanted me to settle for less than my medical bills. He did zero work on my discovery, witnesses or my case. He purposely put me in a position where I wouldn't be able to find another attorney. But I did and lucky for me he didn't represent me. I wouldn't recommend Scott Poisson to clean poop up in my yard. He's that bad.

The word "Clowns" comes to mind when thinking about the handling of my accident. Without saying anything about my case, let me tell you what he didn't do for me. He didn't hold my best interests as a priority. My health and future care was not a consideration. He tried to get me to settle for an amount where I wouldn't make a single penny and urged me to do it. When you graduate cum laude in law school, you are the creme de la creme of your class. If you graduate dead last what are you considered? Scott Poisson.

You expect your atty to protect you, not tell you to settle for less money than your medical bills. But when all you care about is your 33 percent off the top, who cares what you get. He told me, Scott Poisson that he was experienced and basically I would be stupid to not settle and get nothing. No future care, not a dime. Then I learn he filed a motion to withdraw without even telling me or bringing it up three weeks before my discovery was due in court. No work done. In his motion to withdraw, because he doesn't do trials and is too cheap to invest in the cases to get to a jury, he just throws his lien on and says let him fend for himself. Even asked the Judge for 60 days extension for me. That was cool right? Not when you write a motion within a motion which was ruled inappropriate by the judge, denying time. That's experience for you. Lose money for him, receive no care for your injuries in the future, then withdraw from the case without telling the client because he wanted to throw me under the bus from the minute I met him. Then get denied the one thing he tried to do for me.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
