1.0 out of 5 stars

Terrible experience I should have seen the warning signs early on, but gave her the benefit of the doubt, which was a mistake. She was late to deliver on the agreed ask from the first time we met. She then charged me for having to explain the situation over a call because she forgot what to do. She provided little advice, I had to frame up our whole argument to the opposing party. Despite this, she did the minimum and drafted up a very simple and inarticulate response. I continued work with her as I was already committed and this was an important matter that needed to be resolved quickly. She promised to deliver within a few days. Weeks went by, and I received no word, despite following up on three separate occasions including email and phone call message. She finally responds with "I'm working on this tomorrow". I once again received no word and had to follow up. After receiving nothing, I had to move on and get a new attorney. She offered no apology or refund. PLEASE DO NOT PUT TRUST INTO THIS WOMAN FOR ANY IMPORTANT LEGAL MATTER.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
