Overview
Parisi & Gerlanc: New Jersey Workers Compensation Law Firm
Representing Injured Workers throughout New Jersey
Parisi & Gerlanc was founded in Hackensack, NJ in 1936 by Carmine Parisi, the father of current firm partner, Joyce Parisi. Carmine Parisi focused his law practice on representing labor unions and union workers. Joyce has continued that family tradition.
Joyce Parisi graduated from Hofstra Law School in 1977. In addition to labor law studies, Joyce interned in the New York City Office of Collective Bargaining. That experience was eye-opening and led her to pursue a Master of Law Degree in labor law in 1981.
Joyce joined her father's law firm in 1978 and, seeing the enormous burden carried by injured workers, began to focus her law practice on representing the needs of injured workers. Today a substantial portion of the law practice of Parisi & Gerlanc, PC, is devoted to workers compensation and social security disability claims. Joyce is a leader in this field and one of the founding members of the New Jersey Workers compensation American Inn of Court. To date, New Jersey is the only state in the country to have a workers compensation program that trains lawyers in this specific field of law.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
