I retained Mr. Kobin following an auto accident in 2015. Mr. Kobin represented me in court for nearly 2 years and continued to argue my case until a reasonable plea deal was offered by Sussex County PO. Had he been callous or disingenuous in representing me, I likely would have served a nearly 1 year sentence for a single vehicle MVA w/ no fatalities, no BAC above limit, no drugs, etc. I couldn't thank Mr. Kobin (and Susan Reed who filled in while Mr. Kobin was sick) enough for being the arbiter(s) I needed, to avoid letting a stupid mistake I made as a young 20-something year old, leave a lasting stain on my record.

Used Mr Kobin for a criminal issue in Essex County for a relative, which was eventually dismissed by the courts as having no merit. He immediately alienated the judge, was ineffective and unnecessarily confrontational. I released him from further representation and handled the process on my own. My previous experience with Louis Stein of the same law firm had been professional and effective when they handled a malpractice case which had resulted in a death.

I am very sorry about your experience with Mr. Kobin. I am Lewis Stein's son-in-law and worked with him a lot before he passed learning from his impeccable professionality and success practicing law; I now handle all of the medical malpractice and personal injury cases for Nusbaum Stein. The firm has moved to Randolph and has changed shape such that we are no longer handling criminal matters and Mr. Kobin is no longer with the firm. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me (or Mr. Kobin, who remains practicing in Succasunna) if you feel we can rectify whatever happened in Essex County. Moreover, if you have any injury matters for which you or someone you know needs representation, I sincerely hope that, based upon your experience with Mr. Stein, you do not hesitate to reach out to us. How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
