Overview
Virginia D. Benedict joined Rapport Meyers as a partner in June 2006. She has an extensive background in the areas of real property; real estate purchase, sale, and finance for both commercial and residential transactions; banking law and title insurance. Her practice also extends to general business, estate and municipal law.
She has represented clients in residential and commercial transactions for over twenty years in real estate transactions covering the counties north of the Capital District and all of the Capital District and Hudson Valley counties. She has been involved in both residential and commercial transactions, from a seller’s, buyer’s and lender’s perspective. She is an approved attorney for several banking institutions, credit associations and local lenders. Her broad knowledge of real property law, banking law and title insurance have allowed her to effectively represent clients in each of these areas while informing the clients of the implications of the transaction. She also assists real estate clients with subdivision matters. Practicing in the upstate area her entire legal career has allowed her to obtain an extensive knowledge of the unique situations, problems, and issues that can be presented by upstate properties.
Mrs. Benedict also has many years of experience as a title searcher, reader and authorized signatory for several different national title insurance companies, currently including Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company and Westcor Land Title Insurance Company
Mrs. Benedict’s practice further extends to general business matters, formation of legal entities, contract matters, estate planning and administration and municipal law.
Mrs. Benedict has many community ties and currently serves as a trustee on the Greenville Educational Foundation as a board member of the Hudson Area Association Libranry and as an active member of the United Methodist Church of Greenville and Norton Hill, Inc.
Mrs. Benedict is a member of the Columbia County, Rensselaer County and New York State Bar Associations, and is a member of the Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
Mrs. Benedict received her J.D. degree cum laude from Albany Law School of Union University in 1988, and her bachelor's degree from State University of New York College at Geneseo in 1985.
