Overview
Kelly A. Caputo is a 1998 graduate from Touro Law School. Ms. Caputo graduated from Dowling College in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. While at Touro Law School she was Editor In Chief of the law school’s Moot Court Board and competed nationally in Appellate Advocacy competitions. In 1998 Ms. Caputo was awarded the National Women Lawyers Outstanding Female Law Graduate of the Year award.
Upon graduation from law school Ms. Caputo began her employ in the Office of the Corporation Counsel handling medical malpractice defense of Brooklyn City Hospitals including Coney Island Hospital, Woodhull Hospital and Kings County Hospital. In 2002 she then took her trial experience and went to work for Fumuso, Kelly DeVerna, Snyder, Swart and Farrell, a medical and dental malpractice firm on Long Island. She continued to try cases at that firm during her tenure of 2002- 2005. There she tried multiple dental malpractice cases and forged a long relationship with both OMSNIC and FORTRESS.
In 2004 Ms. Caputo was awarded the annual OMSNIC National Defense Counsel Gail Brunner Award for "Service Above and Beyond" in the defense of oral surgeons. Ms. Caputo was the first attorney recognized with this award. In 2006, Ms. Caputo was selected as "Attorney of the Year" by OMSNIC from among a panel of hundreds of defense counsel throughout the nation.
Ms. Caputo has a background in risk management and healthcare having worked in a medical records department charting deficiencies and managing a medical practice all between 1986-1998 while attending college and law school. She has tried and obtained defense verdicts in the range of twenty dental and medical malpractice cases throughout the years as well as having authored numerous appellate briefs and argued before the various New York appellate panels.
From March 2005 through April 2009 Ms. Caputo was a partner and trial attorney at Kolenovsky Spiegel & Caputo LLP. During that time Ms. Caputo continued defending oral surgeons, dentists, doctors and other healthcare professionals in all aspects of malpractice litigation - including trial.
In 2010 Ms. Caputo joined Avelino Nitkewicz LLP "Of Counsel" to its Litigation Department. Currently Ms. Caputo litigates a wide range of complex medical and dental matters for Avelino Nitkewicz LLP.
