New York Criminal Defense Law Firm

Overview

Mr. LaMagna is a former prosecutor who began his career specializing in criminal law in 1987. As a former prosecutor, he was trained by the very same government that he now defends his clients against. For almost three (3) decades Mr. LaMagna has earned the respect and reputation for being a zealous defender of his clients' rights. He has been involved in numerous high profile criminal cases and has appeared on 60 minutes and Prime Time as well as a guest lecturer and commentator for various new outlets including News 12 and Newsday.

No matter how serious the case; a simple misdemeanor or serious felony, the rights of Mr. LaMagna's clients are always aggressively defended. Mr. LaMagna's philosophy has always been that defending the criminally accused is a success oriented practice since an accused freedom, liberty, reputation and livelihood is often at state.

Throughout his career Mr. LaMagna has and continues to successfully defend his clients charged with any type of criminal offense including DWI, drug cases, domestic violence, sex offenses, assault, fraud and larceny, weapons, homicides and white collar crimes. Those facing criminal charges face an uncertain future without the aid of an experienced, skillful and compassionate advocate that is ready, willing and able to fight for his clients rights to ensure a successful outcome.

The clients of Martello & LaMagna, P.C. can always rest easy and return to their families and lives knowing their rights are being protected.

When the need arises don't simply hire a defense attorney, hire a former prosecutor.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
