New York Litigation (Commercial) Lawyer
Overview
Rosenberg & Estis, P.C. mourns the passing of Warren A. Estis, a founding partner of the firm and a distinguished member of New York City's legal community, who will be remembered for his wit, intellect and tireless commitment to the real estate industry.
Warren was a true titan of real estate who embraced litigation with the passion and enthusiasm of an avid sports fan. He was known to judges and opposing counsel for his fierce, colorful, and truly unique litigation tactics. He was quick on his feet, and a mercurial fighter with unshakable confidence in his own views. He had an incredible sense of humor and an unparalleled ability to make a deal.
During his 49-year career, Warren established a powerful track record as a tenacious litigator, who protected the rights of New York City's top developers and property owners. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of New York State law, which enabled him to resolve complex issues, and to serve as a valued educator and mentor to other attorneys.
Warren served as the firm's lead trial attorney, successfully trying cases in state and federal courts, while arguing before the New York State Court of Appeals, Appellate Division, and the Appellate Term. Warren's practice included a broad range of matters, including commercial litigation, landlord-tenant disputes and land assemblages. He shared his legal expertise as editor and co-author of the Landlord/Tenant Law and Rent Regulations columns in the New York Law Journal, and as author of a book, New York Rent Regulation Reform Act of 1997.
Warren received his B.A. from Long Island University/C.W. Post College and his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. Among many honors, Warren received the American Jurisprudence Award in Negotiable Instruments and the Civil Court Practice Section Award from the New York County Lawyers Association
He was a member of a host of legal industry associations, including the New York State Bar Association, New York State Trial Lawyers Association, New York City Bar Association and the bar association's State Courts of Superior Jurisdiction Committee, Special Committee on the Housing Court and Civil Court Committee along with the New York County Lawyers Association and the association's Committee on the Judiciary.
Warren is survived by his ex-wife, Karen Estis, his partner Tatiana Enkin, and his children Alex and Dani.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
