Overview
Mark Foster is a Board Certified Specialist in Federal and State Criminal Law, practicing criminal defense in Charlotte since 1996. He has a combined total of 35 years of practice in North Carolina, California, and the military. He has tried over 130 jury trials. Foster has briefed dozens of appeals and has presented oral arguments before the following courts: U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; North Carolina Supreme Court; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (formerly U.S. Court of Military Appeals). During his years of practice in Charlotte since 1996, Foster has tried some of the most serious, lengthy, and complex trials that have taken place in Charlotte during that time.
Foster graduated with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California in 1978 and with a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1981. Foster served for over five years as a deputy district attorney in Orange County, California. Foster also served as an active duty Marine Corps officer from 1984 to 1987, serving as a judge advocate representing Marines in court-martial trials. He then served in the Marine Corps Reserve until retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2004.
