Handled a Very simple, uncontested divorce between my ex and I. It took the incompetent people 6 months the muddle through it. They were absolutely Horrible! I cannot go into all the details, but it was honestly the worst experience of my life. I got No notice it was finished. I had to email and ask if the $500 trust would be returned or I never would have heard from them again. Use anyone BUT this group of fools. Please save yourselves.

We helped this client divide his assets with his wife. We came up with an agreement that he instructed us to draft. Between the time of the agreement and its execution, events occurred that were out of our control which made his agreement non-viable. Namely, a downturn in the stock market. The client understood, and we worked with him diligently to successfully get an alternate agreement in place. We were in constant contact with him during the process. His final email to us indicated that he was happy with our services and was very satisfied that the process was over. We heard nothing from him until this review over three months later. We reached out to him personally following the review and he was uninterested in a resolution. Instead, he resorted to baseless insults and lawyer jokes. Needless to say, you cannot make everyone happy no matter how hard you try. Hopefully, this client will take us up on our offer to answer any questions that he might have so that he can better understand the process of what we did for him. If he chooses not to, we can do nothing else but defend our firm against clients who leave misinformed negative reviews.

I hired Harvey Barbee to handle my divorce and he went above and beyond in representing me. He is an excellent attorney who put me first and he had a great understanding of the law. He always responded in a timely manner, and I will continue to use his services in the future if I ever need an attorney.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
