Carey played a pivotal role as second chair in a three-week jury trial that resulted in a jury award exceeding $9 million for his client. He has also handled appellate cases in North Carolina's appeals courts and litigated cases in the Federal Courts of North Carolina and Georgia.

Carey obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and pursued his legal education at the North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham. During his studies, he interned at the North Carolina Court of Appeals in the Chambers of Justice Samuel Ervin IV. Carey's passion for politics and commitment to his community led him to engage in local politics, serving as the Chairperson for the Iredell County Democrats and running for District Court Judge in 2016. Currently, he serves as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church Statesville, where he teaches Youth Confirmation Class and acts as a Youth Group Leader. Furthermore, Carey actively contributes to his community as a member of the Ethics review board of Gordon Hospice House and his involvement with the Iredell Museums Board of Trustees and Downtown Statesville Development Corporation Board of Trustees.

Carey's roots lie in the Mitchell College neighborhood of Statesville, where he spent his entire childhood under the care of his parents, David and Sally Parker. Educated in Iredell County's public schools, Carey first attended Statesville High School before later enrolling at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA.

Following the completion of his law studies, Carey, accompanied by his wife Annie, returned to Statesville, driven by their desire to establish a family and contribute to his law firm. Together, Carey and Annie have been blessed with two daughters, Evie and Willa, and they have chosen to reside in the heart of downtown Statesville. Actively engaged in their local community, the couple are valued members of the First Presbyterian Church. As a close-knit family, they relish in outdoor activities such as hiking and camping, nurturing their shared love for nature. Additionally, Carey finds immense joy in the art of fly fishing and cherishes his role as an avid outdoorsman.
