When seeking a lawyer as the plaintiff for a civil case, I had several options to consider. From the start, my husband and I were impressed by Virginia King?s excellent communication skills, legal expertise and above all, her passion to do the right thing. We dealt with her directly from start to finish and truly appreciated her transparency and consideration for our situation. She always empowered us as clients and presented the best options throughout the process. In the end, while we knew it wasn?t a guarantee, she did secure the win for us. We are confident recommending Virginia King to anyone looking for a lawyer who is looking for top-notch representation.

Our lawyer was professional but also caring. She reviewed all aspects of our case and prepared us for questions and comments from the other side. I felt at ease and confident that Virginia knew exactly what to do and how to handle our case. Of course, we won. She will always be our number one pick for anything legal.

I don’t usually write reviews but I felt compelled to because I know how much I rely on them whenever I’m trying to make a decision about something- especially something as daunting as choosing a lawyer because let’s face it if you need one things are already not going great and that’s the time when you really need to make smart decisions. Awhile back a relative and I opened up a small sandwich shop. Neither of us had ever done anything like that before and mistakes were made. The biggest was signing the lease agreement for our rental space without having a lawyer review it. We were naive in blindly trusting the property manager bc he assured us it was the standard lease agreement and this is how it’s done. We didn’t think negotiating was an option. In time we realized we were wrong and had made a big mistake. Fortunately for us Virginia overheard our situation and offered to look into it. With one conversation she managed to completely remedy the situation AND put an end to the bullying behavior we’d been experiencing for months. She’s not only a great lawyer, she’s a great person, who actually cares and wants to help.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
