Attorney Information

Overview

Amanda Jonas Lorentson focuses her practice on sexual assault, child abuse, medical malpractice, catastrophic accidents and other personal injury cases.

In her most recent case, in December 2021, Lorentson was lead counsel in litigation that resulted in a seven-figure settlement with a hotel and its security firm for the victim of a sexual assault that occurred on the hotel premises.

Having begun her career as an elementary school teacher (as did Tom Kline), Lorentson switched to the law and attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was a top student and a prize-winning debater.

She hit the ground running at Kline & Specter, having worked for a year as a law clerk at the firm before passing the bar and being sworn in as an attorney. Lorentson focuses on cases involving child and sexual abuse. In addition to her legal duties at the firm, she also serves as its Coordinator of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Lorentson gained prior legal experience during law school as a trial intern with the Defenders Association of Philadelphia and as a summer associate with the large Philadelphia firm of Blank Rome LLP.

Before that, she worked as a 5th grade teacher in Washington, D.C. and taught 8th grade English at the Young Scholars Charter School in Philadelphia.

Lorentson earned a master's degree in education from George Mason University and her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Buffalo, where she graduated summa cum laude and was the recipient of the Pacemaker Award for Diversity Article of the Year given by the American Society of News Editors and Associated Collegiate Press.

At Penn Law, Lorentson was awarded the Teach for America Scholarship and the Dean's Scholars Scholarship. In her first year she was a Philadelphia Diversity Law Group fellow. Later, Lorentson went on to chair the fundraising effort for the Equal Justice Foundation and was a trial team competitor, winning Best Direct Examination in the 2018 National Trial Advocacy Competition. She is currently assistant coach of the trial team, which participates in various national trial competitions.

Lorentson is a member of the University of Pennsylvania Carey School of Law Inn of Court and Teach for America Alumni 2011 in Washington, D.C.

Lorentson also serves on the board of directors of the Liberation Foundation, a nonprofit organization which advocates for wrongfully convicted persons seeking legal representation.
