In the past, he has represented the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in an action against a music group and record company responsible for publishing an FOP photograph on an album cover, the contents of which advocated the murder of police. Mr. Smerconish has been co-counsel for the City of Rome, Italy, in a legal action against the Barnes Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyer's Association. Michael's radio work has included guests such as President George W. Bush, Senator Arlen Specter, attorney William Kunstler, the Honorable Edwin Meese and comedian Jackie Mason. Smerconish has himself been a guest on Rivera Live on CNBC and the cable program News Talk Television, and has provided election night commentary for various Philadelphia network affiliates. Mr. Smerconish previously served as the Regional Administrator and Federal Housing Commissioner of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Philadelphia Region III, having been appointed by Secretary Jack Kemp on August 12, 1991. Mr. Smerconish served in this capacity until February 26, 1993. As HUD regional administrator, Mr. Smerconish oversaw the management and operations of all HUD activities in the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia. This appointment capped several years of experience in political affairs.
