Pottsville Personal Injury Lawyer

Overview

For almost a quarter of a century, Ken has been an advocate for those who have been victimized by the wrongful conduct of others. This has instilled in him the empathy to understand the problems that they are forced to face and the experience to utilize the legal system to help them obtain maximum compensation for their loss. Whether he is standing up to unsympathetic insurance carriers in settlement negotiations or filing lawsuits in court, Ken has successfully fought for his clients' rights and recovered tens of millions of dollars for them.
Most lawyers have little idea how tough it is to succeed in the courtroom. Like all of the other lawyers at Fanelli, Evans & Patel, Ken does. Before going into the private practice of law, Ken served as a law clerk to the Honorable John T.J. Kelly, Jr. of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. After completing his clerkship with Judge Kelly, Ken was an Assistant District Attorney in Berks County where he served as the lead attorney representing the Commonwealth in hundreds of felony hearings and trials.

It was this experience in his formative years as a trial attorney that led Ken to concentrate his practice on personal injury litigation. Currently, Ken devotes almost 100 percent of his law practice to this type of litigation which includes but is not limited to automobile, motorcycle and trucking accidents, medical malpractice claims, wrongful death claims, and premises liability actions. Ken has also helped more than 75 survivors of sexual abuse bring claims against their perpetrators and those who enabled the perpetrators. For more than 15 years, Ken fought for both men and women who had been sexually abused by priests, overcoming many obstacles such as the statute of limitations to secure recoveries for them. Persistence, dedication and hard work are a few of the traits that helped Ken achieve results for these very deserving clients.

Ken has significant experience in both jury and non-jury trials where he has successfully obtained verdicts for his clients. For example, Ken tried a wrongful death case in the Berks County Court of Common Pleas which resulted in a verdict in excess of $46 million. Ken has also had success trying cases in Schuylkill County and Lehigh County. Ken is also a strong proponent of Alternative Dispute Resolution when it will benefit his clients. He has successfully represented clients in both arbitrations and mediations and serves as an arbitrator in Berks County.

In addition to devoting countless hours to representing his clients, Ken is very active in the Berks County legal Community. He is a former chair of the Berks County Bar Association's Civil Rules Committee. Ken was also appointed by the judges in Berks County to serve as a discovery master. Ken has been volunteering his time to help the judges resolve discovery disputes in civil cases since the inception of the discovery master program in 2015. He is also a former member of the executive board of the William Strong Chapter of the American Inns of Court. In addition to continuing to serve on the rules committee, Ken is a member of Endlich Law Club. He serves on numerous other committees and frequently presents seminars on various legal topics to other lawyers.

Ken graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1991 where he played both football and baseball. He continued his education at the Widener University School of Law and graduated cum laude in 1994. In law school, Ken distinguished himself as the winner of the American Juris Prudence Award and was the recipient of several other academic honors.

Ken is very involved in the local community. He and his wife raised their two sons in Exeter Township. An avid sports enthusiast, Ken coached youth sports in both the City of Reading and Exeter Township for more than 15 years. From 2011 through 2017, Ken was a member of the Exeter Community Library Board of Trustees and served as its President for three of those years. Ken's roots in Berks County run deep.
