She's an awful attorney, she does not return phone calls I have been trying to reach her for weeks and have left more than 6 messages. She did not try to help my boyfriend her client at all she did what was the easiest. She's lazy and has horrible manners.

I wouldn't even give Michele L Rioux the 1/2 star rating that I was forced to give in order to even write this review. How she is even still holding an active good standing law degree and able to still practice is beyond mind blowing to me as well to pretty much anyone else I have encountered on her behalf, with both past clients as well as her present colleagues. Michele is very unprofessional in many ways, all the way from her so called legal professionalism, down to her unkempt appearance and lack of personal hygiene. She is very rude, ignorant, non punctual, uneducated with not only her degree to practice law but with most if not all common sense in today's society. As an attorney working for a client, she does not seem to work for client, but against client and more so with the Probation dept and DA's office whom also lack not only the proper skills to complete there jobs as titled but in common sense. She does not keep her word to complete tasks ordered by judges, her clients and there families or loved ones. Doesn't answer her calls, return messages, emails even when ordered by judge. she most certainly does not have her clients best interests as well as there legal rights at her will, which is mind boggling to me where I would assume that is why someone would enter there profession? My boyfriend honestly defended himself in a simple cut and dry clear case matter very professional with more legal knowledge than this women and she even fought him on that going against his best wishes knowing he wasn't guilty of anything. I pray no one ever pays for this attorneys services out of pocket or for a private hire. She isn't worth her even being a court appointed attorney. She should be ashamed of herself professionally and personally! I have also filed legal complaints on her license to practice with the Massachusetts state house and law board!

Michell is extremely rude and very difficult to get in touch with. She never has any information on cases unless it’s last minute. Client communication is extremely limited due to her “dentist” visits and other personal issues. I called to ask if she had other colleagues she could refer me to since she seems overworked. She very rudely asked if I thought she was playing games with my loved one and told me to find another attorney myself and to never call again and hung up on me. Do not waste your loved ones life on this unprofessional woman.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
