Consulted Law firm 2024I am a conservative therapist in the State of Kansas and I spent the past few months completing costly requirements to become a part of this Collaborative Divorce Mediation Group in Kansas City as a Divorce Facilitator/Coach, and also I had a meeting scheduled with the current President of the group and another person as I was being considered to be co-leadership based on my skills and background. I sometimes post political opinions on my social media and Hugh O'Donnell is not a connection as I only recently learned of him. However, Hugh searched for my social media and because he does not agree with my beliefs, rather than contact me directly to work something out, he sent a very nasty email to a group of 25 members of the Collaborative Divorce Group (CPKC). Most people in the group that he copied, I have never met and do not know. Hugh sent this email about me to the current President and again, he copied 25 members of the group without ever once contacting me to voice any concern professionally. His email states that he was not impressed with my political position, that as a conservative I could not work with diverse groups of people calling me "anti-gay, anti-trans" etc., and that if I was not removed from the group that he would leave. This was completely out of the blue and uncalled for because I treat members of those groups therapeutically, and my own daughter is Gay/Trans and I love her very much. Before I finished reading Hugh's horrible email, I started receiving emails from the other 25 people he copied in rapid succession stating (solely based on his accusations) that they did not want to work with me either. They said that I was "appalling" and other things. All saying they did not want to work with me solely based on Hugh's accusations and because I am a conservative. I spent the last few months completing educational requirements to participate/work with this group in good faith and I was being considered to work with them. This is all in email and I paid a lot of money for the education, including paying membership dues and to be listed with a profile on their member website. As a result of his email, they immediately took my PAID profile down and haven't even contacted me to reimburse me at all. This man is an attorney in KS and MO, and he maliciously did what he did to harm me. He apparently oversees the group and other things, so he has probably done this kind of thing to others who he feels threatened by. What this man did has tarnished my reputation and hurt me. His unprofessional misconduct has cost me consideration of my position and of the co-leadership role I was being considered for. I feel that what this man did to me was driven maliciously with the intent to harm me as he knew what he was doing. It is clear that if you are a conservative couple divorcing, the only thing welcome at Collaborative Practice of Kansas City, or with this guy's law firm is how much money you are willing pay them to pretend they care about your family/case. No one from the group, not even the President called me before removing my paid profile that I paid for. There has been no contact from the President or anyone. Other people here say that this man over promises and under delivers, and it seems to be accurate. I would not waste your time with his law firm or with this "Collaborative Group" which prides its self on "diversity", unless you have a different opinion. If you do, you are deemed "hateful" and they don't want to work with you. If you believe in conservative principles, do not go to this group or use this man's services.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
