Hired Law firm 2021-2023I was not pleased with this office in the beginning but it became drastically worse after they joined Brouse McDowell. The communication skills are horrendous. I never knew what I was paying for and I never knew how much anything was going to cost until I got a bill. And the bill went up and up and up and up, particularly after they joined the association. After having hired them for about a year, I was told everything would be resolved by the end of October. I heard nothing and I heard nothing and I heard nothing. No resolution, no money. The same $45 charge continued to appear but nothing was happening. Then the office joined the association and my bills went to $5000 a month. There was progress but at a huge price and there were many excuses for why nothing had happened prior. When the office joined the association, there was no communication to clients that billing had changed and email addresses had changed. This is basic communication. You should not as a customer, be hit with a monthly surprise every month because you have absolutely no idea what has been going on and no idea on what your money has been spent until you get a bill. I was originally told this would not cost over 15,000 but I do believe for over 25,000 now.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
