Hired Law firm 2023-2024Don't hire for a divorce. She misses the details it takes to win a case. Easily swayed by opposition from lack of preparation. And definately doesn't consider how the court's decisions affect you in the future. After losing your case she will still see it as a win. At 70, after 50 yrs. married my ex isn't happy. End results results...I got our home, over appraised with no money allowed for critical repairs. I was left starting from "0". No accounts collecting interest. My bills are more than SS. Received no alimony that I clearly qualified for. So...the money I was granted is depleted every day. I now at 72 have about 2 yrs. of money to live on. Can't sell the house with all the needed repairs. Even if I could it takes money to live. The lawyets and judge decided my fate with little transparancy. My ex is living off his interest. Fishing on our boat in Fl. and living in our condo. that he will get full price for when selling. Or perhaps live on mtn. creek property conveniently under appraised. Don't be fooled into thinking you can take your case back to court. Lawyers do not want these cases. And it's almost impossible to do per stated laws as the judges don't want to redo their cases. Now at 72 I'm still trying to get my case corrected. Long story short...I should have fired her.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
