Allan shapiro has represented me since 1995 . He has never once tried to get me an award. I've been on wprkers comp for over 30 years and after 30 years when owcp wanted me to do vocational rehabilitation allan shapiro just all of a sudden his very ignorant narcissistic son said I owed tje firm 700.00 and he would not help me AFTER 30 YEARS OF REPRESENTING ME and now I have to find another attorney. DO NOT USE THIS FIRM THEY ARE LIARS ! & THEIVES! WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO PAY THIS FIRM FOR DOING THEIR DAMN JOB (IF THEY DO IT) ! That's what the 20% is for when you get the award ! They just left me hanging .

I was lied to, ill advised, misrepresented & mislead by the lawyers at this firm. The receptionist are rude, she'll talk over you & won't let you get your question out & she'll put you on hold & or hang up on you midsentence. They'll hold your case up for months. Then charge you an arm & a leg after you've fired them & done what they were supposed to do. Had I not fired them I feel like I would've been still waiting to receive my award. They are very unprofessional.

As a border patrol agent, I Took a Mesquite branch through my left eye one night while chasing a group of drug smugglers. I subsequently received a cornea Transplant in the same eye. Upon receiving the transplant, I was unable to see properly out of that eye. My vision went from being a perfect 20/20 to 20/600 After the surgery. For one reason or another, my eye was not very receptive to the new cornea. OWCP Tried to award me a 20% compensation payment. It clearly states in Owcp’s regulations that if you lose more than 80% of vision and either I it’s considered to complete loss of vision and should be awarded 100%. I contacted the Shapiro law firm to file an appeal on my behalf and they were able to get me an additional 20% but are still fighting the good fight on my behalf. Their tenacious approach and dedication to knowing Worker’s Compensation law has been a godsend. I am more than happy with the service that I’ve received so far from this law firm, anybody using them in the future just be aware that it is the government and they take their time with everything, it is not the law firms fault. If you let them do their job without constantly bothering them, you can have trust that they will get the job done. Estate I am still in this fight and I will update once this is complete. Once again, thank you Shapiro Shapiro and Shapiro.

This Alan Shapiro called my daughter asking her yesterday about forms she already submitted. Which he lied and said he didnt have. Then he lied and said he sent her to his Doctor, which the family is listening on speaker phone as she tells him, No! You never sent me to yours, but in an email, he forgot he told her to go to the original surgeon. I raised her well. My daughter says she can tell he is unprofessional, and unorganized, because he has none of his facts together, and constantly has inaccurate info with those under 5 minute conversation. I'm not clear who referred her to him, but it's obvious, they do not have to do much thinking in this "field" of law, because the clients do all the work. I know this much, Have your facts together when you call my daughter, because in her line of work, she KNOWS a LIAR!!! I told her based off the history of horrible reviews, you may not see a dime. Definitely ineffective counsel.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
