When you get into a situation where someone someone takes legal action against you, it's a nerve racking experience. For me, living half way across the country, it was especially challenging. I knew nothing about New Jersey law and I looked at and spoke to a lot of attorneys and when all was said and done, I hired Mr. Fortunato. I am not necessarily the most patient person and I was quite nervous and upset about what was happening. I had all these things I wanted to do and say and since I was out of state, I was never able to meet him in person before we were in court, but when I did, I knew I had made the right choice. Watching him in court was like watching a composer produce a new masterpiece. He knows the law. He knows what to do. He has a calm presence. I made the right choice. I am extremely grateful for the help and time Mr. Fortunato gave me as he protected me and won my case. I would highly recommend him if you are in need of an attorney.

Mr.Fortunato doesn't care about the client at all. I have received a letter from counter-party about his client was not getting enough information that was requested which was not true and I inquired to Mr.Fortunato to become my representative and he accepted. I sent him all the information as well as the letter that I have received. He requested $1000 retainer to start off with. I did sent him via Zelle and he confirmed that money was received. This happened in back in May 2024. I checked with him after I sent him the retainer. He responded he will send out a letter to the counter-party's lawyer. I tried to follow up with him but he did not response to my text or email that I have sent. It is now August 2024, after 3 months passed, I found out that he did not take any action. When I contacted him, he did not even remember me and asked me to tell him from the beginning again. At this point, I was very frustrated and searching for a new lawyer and asked him to return my retainer that he did not work on. But he did not return, as expected, and I am posting the experience with him here so that no body use him to represent your legal challenges. Do not hire him. When you initially talk to him, he will act very modest and sounds like he will protect you from the legal challenges that you are facing. But once you are on the hook, he won't give a damn about you.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
