Attorney Ronald Brockmeyer, his son Nick and another resident attorney, Bert Fulk, are excellent. I was originally recommended by word-of-mouth from a friend to have Mr. Ron Brockmeyer represent me in a small criminal case and have since retained both Mr. Ron Brockmeyer and Mr. Bert Fulk at least four times in matters from both criminal to traffic issues. They are well connected and have a nose for the right approach to take given the situation, the judge and the prosecutor. They are affable and their fees are reasonable. His office staff and assistants are competent and quick to respond, are seemingly skilled in legal matters themselves. Between his staff, fellow attorneys and himself, they take care of their clients very well. In one case they showed up on my behalf in a matter that I had not been notified of (by the court, that is - his office contacted me immediately, sooner than the courts) and prevented me from getting a no-appearance. He is aware of what's going on with his clients in the courts and that is very helpful. I have referred several others to Ronald Brockmeyer from traffic tickets, DWIs, misdemeanor criminal and up to felony criminal charges. I would recommend him to any of my friends, family and anyone that would need consulting. If he isn't sure, I trust he'd recommend another attorney that can. You're in good hands with him and his associates. As an aside and a testament to his personal character I believe he is some kind of war hero judging by the military awards in his office from (I think) Vietnam.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
