Consulted Law firm 2021-2022E. Gilmore Maxwell was referred by a friend so I had no previous knowledge of his representation of his clients. In the beginning, he appeared to care. My Son was charged with a Felony but he had no previous criminal history other than traffic violations. At the first appearance, the family request that he ask for bail. He never asked the judge which resulted in my son remaining incarcerated during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. On the second appearance, we were waiting in the courtroom for a 9am hearing but Mr. Maxwell never appeared. I finally got him to answer his personal cell phone. I was told that he had postponed the hearing because his Partner's son had came to his home the night before under the influence of Crystal Meth and according to Mr. Maxwell his Partner's son started beating his Partner's 78 years old father. Mr. Maxwell tried to intervene on his Partner's father behalf and received a black eye and resulted in him calling the police to resolve the situation. Therefore, he postponed the hearing again because he did not feel safe driving from his home in Clayton Georgia after being up so late. He and I had words on several occasions! He meet my son in October when he received the initial payment. He told my son he would come back once he had a chance to get discovery information. He never spoke with my son again until the day of the trial and he tried to get me to have my son to plead guilty. During a conversation about the type of representation he was providing my son Mr. Maxwell stated his views on Black Women, "I've been practicing law for of 30 years and it never fails that "you black women are always stating that your sons are innocent!" He presented the documentation from the prosecutor, I told him to have my son plead "NOLO." He told me that the prosecutor would not accept that which was not true! After showing me the documents, he added a restitution fee at the bench of $5000 after my son sign. My son was transferred to another county due to traffic violation. We are still fighting the fine with the county. My son can't get off probation until it is paid . Mr. Maxwell was located in Gwinnett County when I retained him. He has since lost that office. He works out of his car. PLEASE BE AWARE! THIS MAN IS RUDE, CONDESENDING, UNTRUSTWORTHY, AND A SNAKE!

Hired Law firm 2020-2021Gil is very rude, not reliable, money hungry, very unprofessional, and will mock your loved ones in your face. He joked to my husband about how he won’t see me out before Christmas and don’t expect me to be sitting at the dinner table. He cursed out my husband when he called Gil because he wanted to check my status and Gil wasn’t replying to none of his messages let alone answering his or my calls. I would never recommend him to anyone. He kept talking over my judge after she asked him to stop repeatedly. He got smart with her and luckily she wasn’t the type to sentence you off your lawyer because… smh. He’s just not a good person at all.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
