Consulted Law firm 2021-2022A friend gave me Michelle's name and just let me tell you. Michelle Chavis is as good as it gets. She not only helped with estate planning, but helped win a business contract. She worked diligently and was very detailed. She is not the stuffed-suit business type. Best decision I've made. Thank you Michelle.

Hired Law firm 2019I hope you are reading this before signing a contract with this online predator, ambulance chaser, phantom attorney that will ruin your life and make your stressful situation even worse that it needs to be. She found my info on LegalMatch and called me. She is the perfect salesperson and may even switch from $1500 to $2500 retainer fee on you last minute.... because she knows exactly how to prey on your desperate situation. She is based in Dana Point CA, but has a satellite office in Folsom. She failed to do her job and double charged me numerous times with other clients and was only on my case for less than two weeks. She sent a bill and offered no explanation. When I finally stood up for myself, she quit and filed a lawsuit against me in small claims court where I wouldn't be allowed to have representation or appeal the case. She is still under investigation with Bar Association and the court dropped all the liquidated damages and true retainer fees she was claiming. She is so cruel and evil. There is a very helpful yelp review that detail some of the RED FLAGS you should watch out for. She is also a liar and may tell you some things may not apply to you in her long contract, but will still require you to initial/sign ALL parts. Once you sign her contract, you are likely the next victim. She has a contract to protect her, and you have nothing. You might be desperate, but it doesn't hurt to do a little more research. There are hundreds if not thousands of decent and professional lawyers out there who can represent you in an excellent way. I was left to represent myself in a complicated case of divorce and child custody while defending myself against two career lawyers: the aggressive lawyer who was representing my ex-wife and this phantom lawyer and her lawsuit at small claims court ... while trying to work full time and look after my 4 year old son. CRUEL!!!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
